Dolores
"Dee" Venzer
Born and educated in Georgia,
Dee graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Georgia and has continued to
expand the boundaries of her education through travel. Her journeys to the orient,
the middle-east, Africa, the Galapagos Islands and the American Southwest have
enabled her to view different cultures and their peoples firsthand, and have inspired
her to capture not only the essence of an image, but the inner beauty and dignity
of the various cultures as well. Of particular interest to her is a people’s
determination to continue their customs and lifestyles and she often combines past and present
images to further the link between yesterday and today.
Ms. Venzer has won numerous
awards, including one in the Modern Maturity Magazine’s 1990 competition, which featured
40 paintings selected from 9,000 entries. The exhibit toured the U.S.A. for two years,
culminating in a two months’ exhibit at the Kennedy Arts Center in Washington D.C.
Her painting was also exhibited in the Executive Offices of the White House Conference on
Aging.
As a Grumbacher gold medal winner in 1995, she competed for election to
the
Grumbacher Hall of Fame. In a limited prize field consisting of an
overall winner
and three honorable mentions, she was awarded an honorable
mention and
her painting was published on the 1996 Grumbacher calendar.
